I recently came across Footballzebras.com, a blog by part-time writers that attempts to penalty-by-penalty situation-by-situation in real-time explain what is going on from an officiating standpoint in recent playoff games.
The website lists under it's about section:
The Zebra Blog celebrates the 33rd team in the NFL: the officiating crews. They are the most vilified when calls go against our team. But, the men in the striped shirts are the most studied at their game — and they have full-time jobs to boot.
Their judgment must be sharp, because, unlike other sports, one call can easily change a team’s season. Some become so infamous, they are begrudged by fans for many years.
While it is easy to point out the bad calls (which we will do), we will also spotlight the good, tough calls.
The analysis looks pretty good, mostly objective, not just a fan. If you want more insights or if a fan and want more insights than what you hear from the broadcasters rather than blowing a gasket every time a call doesn't go your way, give it a look.
